i have seleena councilestate to thank for this...kinda. well, i found out about them through her journal, so yeah. i really like this band now.

if i could dance, i would to this song. i think i really like m.i.a. more than i normally would because she worked with justine frischmann, who i've had a womancrush on since i was 12, and steve mackey, who got closer to jarvis than i ever will! but no, this song is really fun.

p.s. i am listening to jonny greenwood's bodysong. i would upload a track or two, but this is one of those albums that you need to listen to all together [/teasing], so i'm sorry. but...it's kind of genius, alright? so, until later.

the durutti column-you've heard it before
the durutti column-sketch for summer
i don't think many people know about the durutti column (aside from the little bit in 24 hour party people?), and i hope you don't. i don't want to begin every post with "you've probably heard this..." so.
going on, the durutti column is primarily vini reilly, an anorexic manc with a kind of puffball haircut, and his utter guitar magic-or whatever other instrument is nearby. they're quiet, lovely little understated songs that sound like summer days in the english countryside. i will definitely be posting more durutti column songs in the future.

a cover of one of the best magazine songs ever by...well, radiohead. doesn't really need an explanation. knowing that a lot of people on my lj friends list are radiohead obsessives, they've probably heard this...anyway. the quality isn't anything to brag about, but it's a faithful cover and a nice thing to say you've heard.

strangelove-sway
okay, if you want the truth, i came across strangelove for two reasons: 1. patrick duff was really fit, and 2. being the suedenerd that i am, i knew that alex lee, who replaced neil in suede, used to be in this band. now that i've actually heard it, i think patrick duff is, at times, is a bit too melodramatic for me, but this song i really love. patrick was always better when his voice was gentler, and this is a good example. and richard oakes plays strings!

art brut-these animal menswe@r
everyone probably knows who art brut is, so yeah. and apparently eddie argos is the "new jarvis cocker," even though jarvis cocker doesn't really need a new one, as he's still the fucking coolest man alive, but i digress. this song has the best. title. ever. and i really want to hear "fuck the msp" by one of eddie argos' million side projects, if only for the line "nicky wire can suck my cock." because, well, fuck lifeblood, really.
